POINT MARINE LEAP THE 40m FLOOD BARRIER

Flood protection is a hot topic, not only in the UK, but also abroad.

Point teamed up with Zefyr Group (Innovative Building Solutions for a Sustainable Environment) to provide a watertight solution for a flood protection scheme in the UAE.

The challenge: To build and test a personnel sized hinged door to resist 44m depth of water. This is like diving to down to more than 140 feet.  

The forces exerted can be measured in hundreds of tonnes causing steel to deform, seals to distort and shaft mechanisms through the door to leak.

The door unit was mounted to a reinforced test tank filled with water then pressurised to simulate the required 44m depth. The door passed the controlled factory test, witnessed by our client.  

The contract included other doors shipped to the UAE for installation into the flood protection scheme.
